sep 20, 1870 - The Italian Peninsula is United

Description:

After many years of fighting, the Italian Peninsula was finally united on September 20, 1870. The Congress of Vienna gave many monarchs control of the Italian Peninsula as well as awarded the northern land to the Austrian Empire. The Italian- Speaking people were inspired by nationalism as they fought to unite the country. Additionally, many leaders helped the Italian Peninsula come together such as Giuseppe Mazzini, Giuseppe Garibaldi in the south, Victor Emanuel II, and Camilio di Cavour. These leaders led revolts that eventually pushed the Austrians out of the north and united the states within the Italian Peninsula.
