jan 1, 1726 - Farthingale
Description:
A farthingale is a framework of wood that went under the lady's skirts to give the gown some volume. As it was coming into existence, it started looking like a flat disc sitting at the women's hips. This piece could reach up to six feet in diameter. It later was modified to look more curved.
