sep 3, 1783 - Treaty of Paris
in 1783
Description:
This treaty saw Britain ceding control of much of the North American interior, as well as the Ohio Valley area, to American colonists. This was seen as Britain possibly cutting their losses, and as a result the British fur trade was pushed to the North West as much of the fur trade territory had been cut off due to the treaty.
The most extensive repercussion following this was the settlement of British Loyalists from American territories. This saw a large population increase in Nova Scotia, and settler unrest led to the creation of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Also just as significant was the separation of settlers in Quebec who were dissatisfied living among the French, leading to the creation of Upper and Lower Canada.
And not just European settlers, Indigenous allies also settled among the British territories due to unease with American colonies. This led to the Six Nation reserve.
