feb 10, 1760 - Treaty of Paris and Royal Proclamation Signed

Description:

The signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763 marked the British conquest of New France following their retaliation over the expulsion of the Acadians. It heavily restricted French territory and put topics such as French civil law and representation into question. As well it also followed fighting by Indigenous groups that felt the British would be unable to keep the same peace the French did.

Along with this, the British also laid out the Royal Proclamation, which gave large reservations of land to Indigenous people as a way to restrict the 13 Colonies from expanding. This also dictated the way negotiations would be conducted with Indigenous peoples.

Both of these documents would heavily affect relations with the Indigenous peoples, who would have to rely on Britain to keep the peace, as well as laying out groundwork for Indigenous peoples even to this day.
