Description:

Northerners in the House prevent Missouri from becoming a state because Missouri wants to be a slave state; Southerners in the senate lash out by preventing Maine from being a state (it would be a free state); Henry Clay helps create a compromise in which Maine becomes a free state (1820) and Missouri becomes a slave state (1821); also created the 36º30' line (the Missouri line) (slavery prohibited north of it)
