jan 18, 1689 - Montesquieu
Description:
The date is his birthday- Montesquieu believed greatly in the SEPARATION OF POWERS which is where government is separated into branches of equal power. Each branch has different responsibilities which means that they do not conflict with one another and their equal power makes it so TYRANNY OF THE MAJORITY can not occur. He finds that giving people more power than others is disadvantageous which shows his disapproval of dictatorships such as an OLIGARCHY or JUNTA. This system of government is also similar to Canada's BICAMERAL system as we separate into differnet branches but they do not necessarily have equal power.
