The date is his birthday- Francois was writer and philosopher during the ENLIGHTENMENT who published writings under the name "Voltaire". One of the biggest things he was an advocate for was freedom of speech as he believed that even if he disagrees with someone's opinion, he will defend their right to express it. This idea takes a more EGALITARIAN approach as he believes in all people having the equal right and opportunity to express their perspective.
