may 4, 1517 - 95 Theses by Martin Luther
Description:
Against indulgences. Printing press=success! The Bible should be the sole authority in religion.
Lutheranism: Lutheranism had wide appeal and spread rapidly, with the help of new translations and the increasing availability of the Bible (key is the printing press and the use of vernacular!!!) Luther's teachings were often exposed to public places through sermons, and there were also propaganda displaying the pope as the antiChrist.
Lutheranism spread to both princely and ecclesiastical states in Germany, but it remained largely an urban phenomenon.
Religious revolutionary, poltical conservative.
