dec 1, 1960 - Sits Ins and Freedom Rides are organised to protest against continued segregation.

Description:

During the years of 1960 and 1961, several Freedom Rides took place to try and counter the ongoing segregation occurring in society. These journeys involved a series of bus trips through the United States’ south to protest the inequality in interstate bus terminals. Similarly, sit ins were a series of nonviolent protests in which demonstrators would occupy a place, and refuse to leave until their demands are met. One situation, known as the Greensboro sit-ins, led to the Woolworth department store chain removing its policy of racial segregation in the Southern United States. Overall, these nonviolent protests helped significantly to reduce the discriminative laws and regulations across the nation in a passive but fervent manner.
