This was a ship type that looked like a half-circle hence the name. These ships were often used by poorer pilgrims for transport. Unlike the much more sophisticated galley, it was very slow but cheap. This ship was ideal because it provided a lot of cargo space for things like horses and equipment.Added to timeline:
