jan 1, 1733 - Industrialization in Britain
Description:
With the use of new agricultural techniques, fewer people were needed on farms to produce enough food to support the population of Britain. These newly available laborers, combined with the invention of machinery that increased productivity, such as the spinning jenny, allowed Britain to mass produce products. This was especially true for the textile industry. The invention of faster modes of transportation, such as the steam engine, also contributed to industrialization in Britain because goods and people could now travel farther in a shorter amount of time, increasing the number of people that a business could viably sell to. Industrialization in Britain began with the invention of the flying shuttle in 1733. Britain’s industrialization contributed significantly to its imperialism because Britain needed more markets for its goods and more raw materials to process. Britain was the first country to industrialize and their success inspired other countries to do the same. Industrialization would also lead to the creation of new economic philosophies, such as communism and socialism.
