sep 5, 1774 - The First
Continental Congress
Description:
A total of fifty six delegates from all the colonies, except Georgia, met in Philadelphia to discuss what united action they could take in response to the British "Intolerable Acts" that were rapidly eroding any sense of loyalty to the crown.
Even with the rapidly increasing tensions, it was still hoped that relations could be salvaged, and it was with this in mind that the delegates ultimately decided to publish a list of rights, also a list of their issues with the crown, and also to request of King George III a redress, or correction, of those problems.
The members planned to meet again if their requests were ignored, and they did indeed meet a year later after their letters had been ignored, and set up the dense of the colonies as the cold conflict blossomed into the all out fighting of the American Revolution.
