sep 5, 1774 - The First Continental Congress
Description:
Delegates (representatives) from 12 to 13 colonies (no Georgia) met in Philadelphia to discuss action against England. Agreed to stop all trade with England until The Intolerable Acts were repealed. Asked that each colony begin gathering and training troops for a possible conflict. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in The Boston Tea Party protest in reaction to changes in taxation by the British to the detriment of colonial goods.
