mar 1, 1766 - The Declaratory Act of 1766

Description:

Passed in March of 1766, this measure was passed by England along with the repeal of the hated Stamp Act. The colonists had resented the crown imposing taxes on them without consent and, after much discussion and actions by the colonists, parliament decided to pacify the colonies by repealing that law.
However, in passing this new law, parliament stood by, what it saw, as its right to pass any binding tax measures that they saw fit. To the colonies, this meant nothing had really changed and they worried that future taxes were coming in the future.
