The Tea Act was put into place to ball the British East India company out of debt. The act lowered the tax on tea required colonists to buy tea shipped by the East India company. Tried to crack down on smuggled tea. The response by the colonists was to boycott and even destroy large portions of British tea.Added to timeline:
