dec 16, 179 - The Scilitan Martyrs (AD 180)

Description:

While this account comes from Christian sources, its form is very close to that of Roman court records. The Christians on trial were from Scili in North Africa. The date of the hearing was July 17, 180, during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius.   In the following excerpt, the Roman proconsul Saturninus was judging the following accused Christians: Speratus, Nartzalus, Cittinus, Donata, Secunda and Vestia.
