aug 11, 539 BC - Persians Conquer Mesoptamia
Description:
A Persian empire, the Achaemenid empire, took over Mesopotamia at the end of the Neo-Babylonian Empire. The empire was led by Cyrus the great, who also took over the Medians and Lydians.
When the Persians took over, the people in Mesopotamia were still allowed to keep their culture and follow their own religions. They just needed to pay taxes and obey the new rulers. They also had satraps, which where governers for different areas.
