Description:
The Stamp Act placed a tax on printed materials like newspapers, magazines, and legal documents. Purchased items needed to have an official stamp showing the tax was paid. Money raised from the stamp act was put toward paying off England's debt. Colonists felt England had no right to tax them because they lacked representation in parliament. Members of all colonies met in New York City for The Stamp Act Congress. The colonists prepared a unified protest of The Stamp Act.
