jul 27, 1598 - Edict of Nantes
Description:
SP- This was the official decree that established Catholicism as the official religion of France, but also stated guaranteed that Huguenots (French Calvinists) could worship in peace in selected places in each town. It ended the fighting between the Catholics and Calvinists of France and recognized the principal of religious tolerance (even though it wasn't by choice, it was out of necessity). This was dealing with states and other institutes of power because it ended the Wars of Religion, which were a series of war between states and the religius groups inside them.
