jan 1, 1535 - Pizarro founds a new capital in Lima, Peru, after defeating the Incas
It doesn't seem possible that Pizarro and only 160 soldiers could conquer an empire of millions of subjects. But timing was on their side. After the death of their supreme ruler, the Incas had divided into groups and fought in a long, bloody civil war. Pizarro was able to ride in amongst the devastation, defeat the weakened armies, and exploit the fractured leadership of the empire.
