nov 8, 1519 - Hernando Cortes arrives in Tenochtitlan
In August of 1519, Cortes left Veracruz with 600 soldiers, horses and cannon. Along the way, they gathered more men from the indigenous peoples that opposed the Aztecs. Either willingly, or by force of massacre, Cortes amassed a huge army. In November, the king, Moctezuma II, welcomed them into the capital, the island city of Tenochtitlan.
