Description:

Poetry always occupied an important place in Sviridov's artistic universe. Georgy Sviridov wrote songs and romances to the lyrics of Mikhail Lermontov (1938, 1957), Alexander Blok (1941), William Shakespeare (1944–1960), Robert Burns (in Russian translation, 1955).
Strongly influenced by the traditional chant of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as his orchestral works which often celebrate elements of Russian culture Sviridov enjoyed critical acclaim for much of his career in the USSR.

What we thought would be an easy task proved to be more complicated than we thought. For each year we’d consider, fewer and fewer were the chances of finding anything useful about the topic, of course we could find several other Russian composers but most of them emigrated from the country or did not live there long enough to represent and ideological context, we hope the reader enjoys this journey as much as we did.
