jan 1, 1598 - Edict of Nantes
Description:
The Edict of Nantes made Catholicism the official religion of France and led to French absolutism (helped keep peace in France). Also, although it guaranteed the Huguenots equality, they left Roman Catholic France for the English colonies in North America after the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685.
