Descriptions back to 900 AD "measles was more dreaded than smallpox". Measles was considered to be a "crowd disease" spread effectively by people living in high population densities. Symptoms of the past included high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, reddish rash all over the body, and sometimes death. Measles is contagious and if an infected child coughs or sneezes, the infected droplets spread in the air and may infect the person close to the child. Some symptoms are fever, nonproductive cough, runny nose, sore throat, conjunctivitis, and red skin rash.
