By the 1580's there were many English versions of the Bible and the Catholic church decided they should have an officially sanctioned version. Translated entirely from the Latin Vulgate the Rheime New Testament, named because it was published in the Roman Catholic collage in the city of Rheime, was published in 1582. The Douay Old Testament was translated in 1609, also named for the city and combined they were called the Rheime/Douay version.
