jan 1, 1560 - First English Bible with verses in it

Description:

During the rein of Bloody Mary, many protestants fled to Geneva Switzerland. There, it was decided that they should produce a Bible for the exiled to read. The New Testament was published in 1557 and three years later, the completed Bible. Because of a verse in Genesis talking about God making breeches for Adam and Eve after their exile from Eden, it because know as the 'Breeches Bible' to some. It was also the first English Bible to include verses along with the chapters for ease of finding passages and continued to be popular a century after the publication of the King James Version Bible. This was also the Bible that William Shakespeare quoted from.
