oct 25, 1825 - The Erie Canal
Description:
The Erie Canal was a waterway that connected The Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean across New York. It was a faster and cheaper way to travel than on a wagon, as going on a wagon cost a $100 per ton compared to $6 a ton on a boat. Also it took 15 or more days to travel on road on contrast to 9 days on water. Furthermore it brought agriculture and business to the west, and connected both the east and west.
