6 Important Facts (Hiroshima & Nagasaki):

1.) On August 6, 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Wiped out 90% and killed 80,000.

2.) Three days later, another B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, killing 40,000 people.

3.) japan's emperor Hirohito announce his country's unconditional surrendered in WW2 in a radio addressed on August 15th, citing the devastating power of a "new and most cruel bomb."

4.) The code names for the bomb "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" were taken from a movie, The Maltese Falcon.

5.)Nagasaki was not on the initial target list. The target committee nominated five targets, Kokura, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Niigata and Kyoto.

6.) The radiation from the detonations created permanent shadows of people and objects that can even be seen today.
