mar 7, 1749 - First Edition of Histoire Naturelle is Published
Description:
Georges-Louis Leclerc, count de Buffon, a french naturalist published his first edition to his 36 piece series of encyclopedias documenting everything known at the time about the natural world. Leclerc believed that life was spontaneously created from the bottom of the ocean by inorganic materials, and as the world climate began cooling, life migrated south towards the equator. As they moved to new territory and climates, Leclerc believed they underwent a type of proto-evolution as their bodies changed to the new environment.
