may 6, 1867 - The March from Clerkenwell to Hyde Park
Description:
On May 6, 1867, working class Londoners marched from Clerkenwell to Hyde Park, demanding the right to vote. Having been forbidden by the government on the grounds that it would disturb the peace, the people ignored the mandate and protested. Two weeks later, legislation was amended that quadrupled the number of working class people eligible to vote.
