The Fall of the Berlin Wall occurred in Germany. The wall was built to keep western fascists from entering Germany and undermining the socialist state. When it was announced that citizens were allowed to cross the border, crowds swarmed the wall. Some people brought hammers and picks to chip the wall away. The wall was destroyed by demolition.
