oct 19, 1781 - Battle of Yorktown

Description:

French and American troops had cornered General Cornwallis and his main force at Yorktown. Cornwallis thought he would be able to escape via the British Navy, but the French Navy had blocked his escape route. Previously General George Washington's army had slipped south undetected and met up with the French army. They laid siege to Yorktown from September 28 to October 19. Cornwallis finally gave up and hoisted the white flag. this was the final turning point in the war. The Britsh forces were weakened and exhausted. The Britsh would surrender a year later.
