jan 17, 1781 - Battle of Cowpens

Description:

In the backcountry of South Carolina, General Morgan caught up with Banastre Tarleton in a pasture called Cowpens. When the British attacked Morgan ordered his militia men two only fire two shots and then scatter. Once they scattered the British charged forward expecting victory. Instead they ran into 300 continental rifler men. They poured fire into the British ranks. After an american cavalry charge and the return of the militia the British had been routed. These was a massive defeat for them and forced General Cornwallis to pull out of South Carolina and retreat to Yorktown.
