Description:

The soil in Barbados had begun to get depleted at this point, making the sugar plantations there gradually less lucrative. British colonists therefore moved to what would later become the United States, importing the sugar plantation system they had perfected in the Caribbean. This introduced chattel slavery to the United States in the form that it would continue to have for another 2 centuries.
