jan 1, 1861 - Louis Pasteur
Description:
France - Louis Pasteur, like Francesco Redi, conducted a controlled experiment in order to disprove spontaneous generation. In Pasteur's experiment, bacteria was put in 2 flasks with necks that let in air but nothing else. One of the flasks was boiled to get rid of the bacteria, and the other was kept the same. After a period of time, the flask that wasn't heated started to fog up, showing signs of bacteria, while the other flask that was heated stayed clear. The results of Pasteur's experiment showed that bacteria only arises from pre-existing bacteria
