jun 8, 1919 - Red Summer

Description:

Race riots erupted across the country, usually whites attacking blacks, that led to hundreds of deaths. This event occurred only a year before Walter moved his family north, to the less racist state of New Jersey, which may have been to escape from the violence of the slave supporting southern state, Virginia.
