Starting in the preseason of the 2016 NFL season Collin Kaepernick starting sitting, but eventually switched to kneeling during the anthem saying, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." In week 1 of that season 11 other players joined him in his protests, with President Trump saying "Get that son of a bi**h off the field."
