apr 18, 1896 - Plessy v. Ferguson
Description:
Famous court case where the Supreme Court claimed it constitional for races to be kept separate. Plessy was trying to ride a train and sit amongst white people. He was then thrown off the train and into a jail cell. Under a Louisiana 1890 state law it claimed that the railways must require equal but separate coaches for white and black passengers. Anyone refusing to sit in proper seating would be fined $25. Ferguson then sided with the government.
