"Neanderthal Man"
Description:
Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis, or "Neanderthal Man", hunted in efficiently organized groups, something that no other primate group had done before. They had a commonly larger brain-size than us, enabling them to create complex tools and weaponry that allowed them to use their resources to the best of their knowledge. One intriguing fact Neanderthals is that they were the first hominid group to bury their dead in what seemed to be organized burials. Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis lived in the cold and harsh regions of Europe, making it a challenge to have a wide variety of plant material in their diet. This caused them to become heavily dependent upon large game, such as reindeer in the summer and deer in the winter. Artifacts show that Neanderthals migrated to many parts of Europe, including parts of Europe and Asia, from Portugal and Wales in the west, and Siberia in the east. Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis coexisted with Homo Sapiens for around forty thousand years, which eventually led to the complete extinction of the species.
Primary Source Inference One artifact that I have found is a neanderthal skeleton. This artifact shows that this Neanderthal is especially evolved to live in colder temperatures by its short, stocky, figure, perfect for harsher climates. This created a huge difference between Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis's way of life and how Homo sapiens lived. ( Watch from time point 0:50-0:55) One primary source from the video that I found was when it showed a comparison between a Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis skeleton and a Homo Sapiens skeleton. When I looked closely at the Neanderthal leg bones, they were thick, and sturdy, while the Homo Sapiens leg bones were tall and lean. This shows that Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis may have adapted to have a generally stronger body than Homo Sapiens. This may be caused by Neanderthal's meat enriched diet.
