Yen Jun-Ling's stepmother's sister came to get her from St. Josephs. She had been the last student there for a long time, due to the fact that there were communists coming to Tianjin to take over. Yen's parents just left her there, not caring what happened to her, but luckily Yen in that school a few months prior, so her Aunt Reine came to get her before her family left for Hong Kong. Yen left with her aunt, her uncle, and her two cousins. While on the boat, they made her feel like she mattered, and she wished to be part of their family instead of her own.
