jan 23, 1911 - Ernest Rutherford
Description:
In 1911 through his "Gold Foil Experiment," Rutherford fired a narrow beam of alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold foil. The result of this led to his proposal and his model that an atom is a mostly empty space and that there is a core, the nucleus, which holds all the positive charge of the atom.
