jun 1, 1820 - Tin Can - Created by Philippe de Girard (uncredited inventor) - Idea passed to Peter Durand - Officially used in 1820 for gunpowder, seeds and turpentine - The reason why food canning was invented was because there was the need for food items that were easily rotten and has a short expiry date than others. There was a need to develop a food storage system that will make all foods be able to be transported and traded without expiring.
