jan 1, 1200 - Modal Rhythms
Description:
Leonin and Perotin developed rhythmic modes, which were specific patterns of groupings of notes that represented a note's length. Notes bound in ligature represented either a long or short duration. This was the first form of rhythm in music which was an improvement from notation previously only indicating pitch, but, modal rhythms were contextualized.
