jan 1, 1000 - Guido De Arezzo
Description:
Guido was an Italian medieval music theorist. Guiodo developed the system of the guidonian hand to navigate through his gamut, a range of six tones (a hexachord). Guido first put notes on lines by creating a four line staff with an absolute reference line against which the notes could be compared (usually a color coded line or written letter for F or C). The soft hexachord included B flat and the hard hexachord included B natural. Music could now be sight-read and passed on a little easier because the pitches were written down and more defined, however, the pitches were still not extremely precise and there was no indication of rhythm.
