jan 1, 1897 - J.J. Thomson’s Model of the Atom

Description:

J.J. Thomson was a English physicist famous for identifying what a electron. He discovered this one day when he was experimenting with a Crook’s tube while he was trying to study the passage of an electric current through a gas when he soon discovered it started to glow which then he realized he had discovered very light negative particles called electrons. This proved Dalton’s theory that the atom was indivisible wrong .Thomson experimented even further with an experiment with gas discharge tubes which then led to the discovery of much heavier positive particles, later identified as protons. This was a major contribution to the scientific community and to the development of the atom.
