jan 25, 1521 - Cortes Conquers the Mexica Empire
Description:
After a long three month siege on Tenochtitlan the natives gave in and Cortes was then elected twice as the governor of Santiago. In 1518 he was appointed as captain general of a new Spanish expedition of mainland Mexico. However that position was later taking from Cortes before his trip but he left anyway without permission. Cortes and his crew made it up to a place he named Veracruz which is where Cortes landed and burned all of his ships to ensure his army would be up for the fight. Cortes mostly impacted the Aztec empire with his ventures, he practically destroyed their empire and was put in charge and those surviving Aztecs were very susceptible to disease leading to more death, a postive outcome on the other hand is that Cortes was able to help modernize the Aztec empire and surrounding area.
