On August 3, 1492 Columbus was sent out from Palos, Spain. Columbus' crew spotted land on October 12, 1492 somewhere in the Bahamas, but Columbus believed he was somewhere near China and Japan . After spending some time on the islands and surrounding area Columbus sailed back with gold, spices, and Indian prisoners. This directly led to him receiving the highest honors from the Spanish court. He was later given a second voyage after the success of his first. Columbus' voyages to the new world led to mostly negative effects on the natives but a mostly positive one for those in Europe. His trips led to the majority of native people to parish from disease and many other causes. Along with the native people dying off the whole native society and culture was dying as well because with less people to follow the culture and the ever growing presence of European culture the Native American people. However for the Europeans this new discovery led to very good outcomes. The Europeans were able to get whatever they wanted from the natives including but not limited to spices, gold, silver, and human labor, all for little to no cost to them. These voyages led to the destruction of many native cultures all while boosting those of the Europeans.
