aug 13, 1598 - Edict of Nantes
Description:
The proclamation that granted protection from persecution to Huguenots in France. It also established 150 towns and cities that the Huguenots were allowed to worship in safety. In the short term, the edict stopped the religious conflicts that were raging before this, but tensions remained high between Catholics and Protestants. The edict would also eventually be revoked, leading to the execution and exodus of hundreds of thousands of Protestants.
