oct 12, 1492 - Columbus lands in the Americas
Description:
Columbus was funded by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain to find a way across the Atlantic to get to Asia for trade. Although for his whole life he thought he had landed in the Indies, he had actually landed in the Bahamas. Columbus wrote back to Spain, informing them of the natives that could be enslaved and converted to Christianity. He came back later to rule Hispaniola briefly. Columbus' voyage was very important, as it is the beginning of the European interactions with the Americas which shaped the Continents.
