A series of both targeted assassinations and mob killings by the Catholics against Huguenots who had gathered for a wedding in Paris. An estimated 5,000 - 30,000 Huguenots were killed in Paris and the surrounding countryside. The massacre killed many leaders of the Protestant movement in France and caused the momentum of the Huguenots of falter.
